Regal London’s multi-award-winning development in St John’s Wood, The Compton, has been honoured with two further architectural accolades.
The Compton has received a Special Commendation in the Best Home or Development of Architectural Merit category in the Evening Standard New Homes Awards 2020, and the Façade Design Award at the German Design Council’s Iconic Awards 2020.
For this project, Regal London and its partners sought to build a highly contemporary building that fits the language of its surroundings in St John’s Wood. Designed by Simon Bowden Architecture, this striking apartment building embodies both innovation and elegance, pushing the boundaries of residential new build, not just in St John’s Wood, but London as a whole.
The Compton, one of Europe’s first cast aluminium clad-buildings, was completed in Spring 2019. The ten-storey residential building of 49 beautifully designed homes is now fully sold out and occupied.
The façade is both striking and refined. We made the decision to produce an exterior composed entirely of cast aluminium, evoking stature and longevity, as if carved out from a single block of metal.
We were able to mould the aluminium and carve bespoke patterns and textured shapes, producing a structure that is finely crafted, made from recycled materials, locally sourced from Essex and manufactured by a team of highly skilled tradespeople. As such, there is provenance between the resulting design and its manufacture. At some distant time in the future, it will be recycled itself.
