The Cube Building in Hackney was, when completed in 2015, Europe’s tallest Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) constructed building, with its ten stories reaching a total height of 33 metres.
The distinctive façade of the building is eye-catching and unique in its design. It has a unique timber/steel hybrid structure, designed with a twisted cruciform plan, ensuring each apartment has views up and down the neighbouring canal basin to the west, or across the park to the east. Intimate terraces and balconies provide unique views of the city, and a gridded brick screen wraps the outside of the building, creating an exclusive space for those inside the development.
MODERN, INNOVATIVE DESIGN
The Cube Building consists of 50 one, two and three-bedroom apartments – 33 of these are allocated as private units and the remaining units are offered as either shared ownership or socially rented apartments.
The ground and lower ground floor of this mixed-use development have been designed as luxury offices, covering 25,620 sq ft. The workspace is integrated into the residential community which offers increased security and provides amenities such as a shared cafe. Award winning architecture practice Hawkins/Brown were appointed for the concept design and planning and worked with our construction arm to deliver these ideas on site. Their innovative use of materials, flat layouts and exciting forms from the early sketches were taken through to the completed building, staying true to the original concept.
